cats
these images circumvent our objective of analysis. they are perhaps “the real” in lacanian terms and “the other” in ecofeminist terms, unless we simply fail to understand their symbolic play. the limit itself seems to deserve a category. we call it a cat. but it could be a dog, a snake, a monster, a ghost, whatever. je ne comprends pas! a home is a place not only for humans but also animals and plants. aside from cats being typical western pets and representing accompanying household responsibilities (changing the litter), cats, as commodities, companions, even as unpaid mice catchers, inhabit space in such a way that their owners feel more at home. one might go so far as to say that pinky and bunny take on the position of caretaker. does this underscore an important form of subsistence we need in our lives?
