safe–unsafe
traditionally, the domestic realm connotes a sense of stability, security and safety, whereas it is the outside world that is dangerous and unsafe and should be fenced off. in this sense, the safe-unsafe distinction is integrated in and supports the public-private opposition. for some migrant domestic workers, the reality is that the privacy of the home conceals the violence afflicted on them and the fear they live in.
